Zoffi Zorn at Ibug

The work at ibug is part of the work “You can’t scare me anymore,” begun in 2024, which addresses the themes of domestic violence, power, anger, and empowerment. The pasted-up portrait is part of a photo series of self-portrayal as the character “Zoffi Zorn.” Zoffi Zorn is a superheroine who, as the painted slogan suggests, fights against patriarchy and male violence. She wears a costume reminiscent of that of Lucha Libre (a form of wrestling), in which the custom of unmasking defeated opponents is common. Zoffi Zorn is still wearing her mask: she has won. The swan on the mask is a recurring motif in Sofia Baronner’s work. On the one hand, as a symbol of purity and light, it upholds Zoffi Zorn’s pure intentions. On the other hand, with reference to Zeus,
who raped Leda in the form of a swan, it can be understood as a silent threat, like a hunting trophy. The words “You can’t scare us anymore” expand the original personal meaning into a hopeful message for all those who feel called upon to defend themselves against their oppressors.
